Brief Information about the Temple
History:

About two hundred to three hundred years ago the city of Bangalore was confined to the markets in and around the present Kempegowda Road. Bangalore comprised of the densely populated stretch from Cottonpet to City Corporation Office.Bangalore was all of cottonpet, akkipet, chickpet, doddapet, halasurupet, sultanpet, mandipet and balepet. Rest of the neighbourhood consisted of agricultural land and many different villages. Bangalore at that time was a residential cum business centre and different sects used to live in groups.

The visitors to Bangalore used to enter Bangalore through Balepet which had small bye lanes, houses and flower gardens. Since Balepet is at the beginning of Bangalore, the same was named as Bengaluru Bagilu(Door of Bangalore). Lord Narasimha used to protect the entire city. Hence the people of Bangalore started to call this deity Balebagilu Narasimha (Narasimha of Balebagilu)

The elders used to narrate the historical incident about Sri Balebagilu Narasimha. In the past one night a person got a dream. In the dream he saw almighty and he told him that the two idols in the Suvarnamukhi lake of Bannerghatta should be installed .Later the person went to priest Narsimhacharya and informed about the dream. When the villgers searched the Suvarnamukhi lake they found two idols. One idol was installed behind champdame temple in Bannerghatta and the other idol was brought to Balebagilu by the villagers. The idol which was called Shri Prasanna Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy was installed behind Pillanjaneya Gudi. The idol measured three to three and a half feet in height and was made up of saligrama shile. The idol had four hands and a Shankhchakra. One hand embraced ShriLakshmi and the other one was abhayahastha. In the padmapeetha where Narasimha was installed, Garuda was also present and looks like the Garuda is carrying Lord Narasimha.

Everyday different kind of Trikala seva is performed for Lord Narasimha. During Vaishaka Shudha Chaturdashi day of every year in the presence of Chitta Swamy Nakshathra Brahmotsava will be performed with pomp and splendour. Balebagilu Narsimha temple was built using stones with ancient style of architecture. There is a main door next to Garudagambha which is in front of Lord Narsimha idol. There is only one samll gopura over the main door.
